Water Fountains Basic Safety Considerations
March 10th, 2010What should you know regarding fountain basic safety? Whether you have a garden fountain outside, a tabletop fountain or a mounted wall water fountain indoors, there are some general guidelines you need to keep in mind to keep you and other people safe.
First of all, recognize that protecting people from slipping is a key concern,. Legal responsibility for an injury can be problematic both in the office and in the home if someone falls as a result of a defective fountain or the awkward placement of a fountain.
It is best to have an electrician install an electrical outlet right behind a wall mounted fountain. When you’re using a regular plug, the outlet should be recessed. In addition, the cords that hang from the bottom of a wall-mounted fountain can be hazardous. The improper wiring of water features is especially hazardous to children. The use of extension cords is seriously discouraged as they have caused accidents in the past.
When dealing with wall mounted fountains, be certain to hang it on the wall using the provided brackets. Make sure that the mounting brackets are stable or else use your own stabilizing anchors. Light-weight water features are sometimes installed with nails. If this is the case, ensure that these fountains are high above the reach of children or pets.
